Each gem must be natural, untreated, and of appropriate weight to carry its planetary energy.
How to Choose the Right Gemstone
01
Consult your Janam Kundli
Your birth chart reveals which planets are weak or strong. Only strengthen benefic (friendly) planets for your ascendant.
02
Identify your benefic planet
Lagna lord (ascendant ruler) and its friends are safe choices. Trine lords (1st, 5th, 9th house rulers) are generally auspicious.
03
Never wear a malefic planet's gem
Unless specifically advised by an experienced Vedic astrologer, avoid gems for planets ruling the 6th, 8th, or 12th houses.
04
Energise before wearing
Perform Pran Pratishtha: soak in raw milk + Ganga jal for 24 hours, then recite the planet's Beej mantra 108 times.
Purification Ritual (Pran Pratishtha)
Soak the gemstone in raw cow milk mixed with Ganga jal (or pure water) for 24 hours. On the appropriate day and in the auspicious muhurta, remove the gem and hold it in your right hand. Recite the planet's Beej mantra 108 times using a tulsi or crystal mala. Then wear it immediately on the correct finger.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear multiple gemstones?
Yes, but ensure the ruling planets are friendly. Sun, Moon, and Mars are mutual friends. Avoid combining Saturn with Sun or Moon. Always consult an astrologer before stacking gems.
What are substitute gemstones?
Ruby → Garnet (Almandine); Emerald → Green Tourmaline or Peridot; Yellow Sapphire → Citrine; Blue Sapphire → Amethyst or Blue Topaz; Diamond → White Sapphire or White Zircon.
Who should NOT wear Blue Sapphire without consultation?
Aries, Cancer, Leo, and Scorpio ascendants should be especially cautious. Blue Sapphire is the fastest-acting gemstone — always do a 3-day trial before wearing it permanently.
How do I energise (Pran Pratishtha) a gemstone?
Soak the gem in raw milk and Ganga jal (or clean water) for 24 hours. Then, on the appropriate day (see table above), recite the planet's Beej mantra 108 times before wearing it for the first time.
