Vashya Koota is the second test in Guna Milan. It checks mutual influence: whether one partner would naturally dominate the other, or whether the two meet as equals. It carries 2 points out of 36.

What Vashya Koota means

Vashya comes from the Sanskrit root for control or influence. Each of the eight tests that make up the match is a koota. The question it asks is simple. In this pairing, does one nature overpower the other? Or do the two natures meet on level ground?

The classical texts answer it through a picture. Every zodiac sign is imagined as a kind of creature. The twelve signs are sorted into five behaviour groups:

• Manava — the human group. Social, reasonable, open to conversation.
• Chatushpada — the four-footed group, the grazing animals. Settled, steady, home-loving.
• Vanachara — the wild group. Independent, forceful, used to leading.

How the points are scored

Same group scores the full 2 points. Every other combination scores by how the two natures interact. The scale runs in half-point steps, down to the one pairing the classics score at zero: the wild sign against the grazing sign, where the texts picture the hunter and the hunted.

The table works both ways — it does not matter which partner carries which group. Only one combination in the whole system scores zero. It needs one Moon in Leo and the other in Aries, Taurus, or the grazing portions of Sagittarius or Capricorn.

What a high score means

The full 2 points means both Moons sit in the same behaviour group. The classical sources treat this as one of the cleanest readings on this test. Neither partner needs to be managed or handled. Two Manava partners settle disagreements by talking. Two Chatushpada partners build the same settled home without negotiating for it. Two Keeta partners give each other the privacy both need. The instinct for how life should run is shared. So the question of who controls whom never arises.

A score of 1.5 or 1 is still a comfortable reading. The groups differ, but neither has any natural hold over the other. Most matches land in this middle band and never feel this test at all.

What a low score means

A half point, or the rare zero, means the two natures pull in different directions. The classic case is the zero pairing. The Chatushpada partner wants a fixed home rhythm: family meals, settled routines, known ground. The Vanachara partner wants room to roam: travel, new company, fresh ideas. Weekend plans and holiday choices become quiet tugs-of-war. Neither partner is wrong. They are simply built differently.
